LIFE ON A CANOE

I have seen how life can be overwhelmed with transitions after living in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands for more than 30 years. I liken it to sailing on a canoe. At times it can be exciting and relaxing. At another time, the wind can change direction any moment of the day. Sometimes the wind can be furious and destructive. Sometimes the sailing can be smooth and manageable. Nonetheless, transition is a regular feature at sea. When the wind is strong and the threat to life is imminent, those on board will secure everything to survive. But when the wind died down, it's time to relax and do business as usual. I have seen such kind of pattern in the Islands' economy. Every now and then, the economy is picking up from a long period of stagnancy, then all of a sudden it's on down hill. With such an unsettling environment, one can imagine how life can be challenging. There's not much stability. I wonder whether that is the mindset of the life on a canoe!
When Christ is on board the canoe any situation in life can be navigated with steadiness. Please read Luke 8:22-25.
